Hailing from Ovejas, Sucre, on Colombia´s interior Caribbean coast, Los Gaiteros de Ovejas (LGDO) is a 6 piece ensemble playing the sound of the ancestral indigenous Gaita and percussion instruments.

For the last 35 years, the group have been composing their own songs, achieving a wonderful and authentic combination of traditional rhythms of cumbia, porro, currulao and everyday stories that happen in their town and in the countryside.

In Ovejas, they transfer their knowledge to the younger generations, teaching them to build and play the Gaita and percussion instruments.

Los Gaiteros de Ovejas are very versatile group offering live shows and workshops. As luthiers, they build and sell Gaitas and percussion instruments.

Since 2017, the group has collaborated with Arcade Fire and Bomba Estereo, among other Colombian artists and Dj´s Producers (Cerrero, Cero 39, Gordos Project).

LGDO have been selected for official showcases such as Mercado Cultural del Caribe (Cartagena, 2019), Circulart (Medellín, 2018), Colombia 4.0 (Bogotá, 2018), SXSW (Austin TX 2019). The group is also a multiple winner of Festival Nacional de Gaitas Francisco Llirene, as Best Gaita Artist Performance.

Currently, the group is developing a new collaboration with Beny Esguerra and New Tradition Music that involves a creative gathering in Ovejas (June 2023), a recording of new songs in Toronto (July 2023), shows and workshops in Toronto and Ottawa (July 2023), and finally they will release this new record with a tour in Colombia (LGDO and NTM together on stage) (October 2023).

Since 2017 LGDO has recorded two albums, “Pa´Amanecé” (2017) and “Al Mejor Estilo” (2020) by the Grammy-award winning musician and producer Chris Castagno, based in Minca (Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia).
